UP FOR AIR – MOOSE

 

Moose have a unique ability to submerse themselves into the bottom of shallow lakes and ponds to eat.  They can feed underwater for up to a minute before emerging with a huge mouthful of fresh pond greens.  In the heat of summer, moose take advantage of the unfrozen water to escape the heat, the biting flies and other insects, all while munching on their staple.  I spent two hours photographing this particular moose, and used a very long telephoto lens.
